"What are we, infants? This is the New York Yankees" - Broadcaster Michael Kay lashes out at Ian Hamilton and Cody Poteet for standoff against Reds

The New York Yankees have been in the news for a while but all for the wrong reasons. The Yanks are in the midst of a losing streak continues. It has been almost a month since they won a series, and their loss to the Boston Red Sox on Sunday continued their slump.

The Cincinnati Reds swept the Bronx Bombers 8-4, but an unforgettable incident took place before the game. On Independence Day, the Yanks and the Reds had a standoff during the national anthem, which eventually led to a slight delay in the game.

It all started out as Ian Hamilton and Cody Poteet competed with Reds pitchers Graham Ashcraft and Carson Spiers. While one tried to beat the other, the standoff lasted for more than five minutes. Things went a bit out of the way when they continued their standoff even when players took the mound to pitch.

The Reds eventually went on to overpower the Yanks to complete a sweep. Reacting to the standoff incident, broadcaster Michael Kay lashed out at Ian Hamilton and Cody Poteet for their standoff against the Reds.

“What are we, infants? This is the New York Yankees. Kay said. The New York Yankees don't play games like that. That's silly; that's stupid; it's childish, it's infantile.
"They're doing a stareoff like they're in Williamsport? Like it's the Little League World Series. And you've been losing and playing poorly, and this is what you resort to? Come on, guys, you're better than that.”

Kay praises Yankees manager Aaron Boone for ending the standoff

Aaron Boone called off the standoff, as he found it ridiculous. Boone asked Poteet and Hamilton to return to the dugout. Kay praised Boone for putting an end to the incident.

While the two returned to their hole, Ashcraft received huge praise for ending the standoff. Not everyone was pleased with the incident, especially Kay. The Brox Bombers have a tough road trip next, as they face off against the Orioles and the Tampa Bay Rays. The team has dropped to second in the AL East.
