When former SF Giants star Buster Posey set his sights on helping his beloved team win another World Series title after joining ownership group
Former San Francisco Giants legend and current member of the club's ownership group, Buster Posey, opened up about the entire experience of being an investor and board member. Posey met with Andrew Baggarly, the Giants' beat writer for The Athletic, earlier this year in February.
The former dashing hitter conceded that the role has met his expectations and gone beyond.
Buster acknowledged that the biggest perk of his job includes getting to stay connected to the fans and the city of San Francisco, a place he and his family have come to call home.
"On Baseball — Meet the newest owner of the San Francisco Giants: Buster Posey," Tyler Kepner, Twitter.
"I've enjoyed it. It's a fun role for me because I get to stay so connected to the team and hopefully the city that my family and I have come to love," Buster told The Athletic.
The right-handed catcher was firm in what his aspirations were for the club. The coveted World Series title may top that list, but bringing back that winning feeling was without a doubt his number one agenda.
"I can truly say my goal is to be as helpful as I can to help the Giants win another championship. When that first pitch is thrown on opening, I think every fan base should feel like, "Hey, this could be our year, a special year, like the 2010 run or '12 or '14." And that's what I hope to be part of helping to create," Buster concluded.
The Giants walk into the season with a terrific deep starting rotation. Will they pull the right strings and go far this year, or will it be another underwhelming year according to their lofty standards? Only time will tell.
Buster Posey was voted the NL MVP in 2012
Buster Posey was picked by the San Francisco Giants as the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2008 MLB draft and made his MLB debut on September 11th, 2009.
Posey spent his entire twelve-year Major League Baseball career with the San Francisco Giants. They won three World Series titles with them during that time. Posey was voted an MLB All-Star seven times and won the NL MVP in 2012 on the back of an injury. Many sports writers deemed it the greatest individual comeback season in sports history.
"YOUR 2012 NL MVP IS BUSTER POSEY! #MVPosey #SFGiants," San Francisco Giants, Twitter
Posey also won one Gold Glove Award and five Silver Slugger Awards. Posey is the second player in MLB history after Pete Rose to win Rookie of the Year, a League MVP, and three World Series championships.
