Why was Derek Shelton ejected vs Reds? Pirates manager, bench coach and pitching coach tossed in 6th innings
Pittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton, bench coach Don Kelly and pitching coach Oscar Marin were all ejected on Sunday following a call by the umpire which led to a walk.
First, Derek Shelton came on the field to express his disagreement, and he was soon tossed out of the game, followed by the rest of the ejections to Kelly and Marin.
This was a rare instance in MLB, as it is not very often that fans see three ejections occur on the same play. Mike Rabelo, the third base coach, took over as the acting manager after the ejections.
Pittsburgh Pirates need to buckle up
The Pittsburgh Pirates have had a decent season so far, with a 53-64 record. They can still make a run for the playoffs if they manage to go on a winning streak. They sit in fourth place in the NL Central, 12 games behind the leading Milwaukee Brewers.
