"Will stick with me until I die" - Aaron Judge on the verge of tears after losing World Series to Dodgers
Aaron Judge is disappointed with the missed opportunity to bring home the world championship to the Bronx. The Yankees lost 7-6 in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday to the Los Angeles Dodgers, squandering a 5-0 lead.
There were question marks about Judge's form at the plate, as the Yanks captain hit 2-for-15 in the first four games with just one RBI, off the last at-bat in the fourth game. However, he picked up from where he had left on Tuesday in Game 4, hitting the first pitch faced for a two-run homer, plating Juan Soto and himself to start the scoring.
The rest of the lineup capitalized as the Yanks led 5-0 by the end of the fourth innings. But their downfall started in the next frame as Judge fumbled a catch off a flyball from Tommy Edman.
In what should have been a regulation out in center field, the dropped catch advanced two runners, both of who would score later in the innings. The Dodgers had a five-run fifth innings and took the lead against the Yankees bullpen before closing out the one-run win.
Aaron Judge expressed his disappointment and said that the loss would haunt him forever.
"I think falling short in the World Series will stick with me until I die, probably," Judge said.
Aaron Judge and Yankees "fueled" to come back for more
Aaron Judge, 32, has seven years of his contract with the New York Yankees left, so he has time to try to win a World Series. The former AL MVP acknowledged the team's fight and said that they would be motivated next year to bring it home.
"We've got something special here. I know this is only gonna fuel a lot of guys, fuel me especially. I want to be on the other side, that's for sure," Judge said.
The Yankees have some work to do in the offseason. As per reports, if they are willing to sign Juan Soto for a long-term contract, they would have to balance their payroll in a way that it doesn't hurt them in other areas of their roster.
