World Series 2024: Top 5 memes from Game 3 inspired by red-hot Freddie Freeman's 5th straight WS HR
LA Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman started the scoring in World Series Game 3, hitting a two-run home run off New York Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt in the first inning. Freeman and Shohei Ohtani (who was earlier) walked in to put the Yankees in a 2-0 hole.
This was Freeman's fifth home run in as many World Series games, including two home runs from the Atlanta Braves' 2021 winning run, a clutch walk-off grand slam in Game 1 and a solo shot in the third inning of Game 2.
His latest home run started a meme fest on Twitter and we have picked some of the best for you:
Freddie Freeman's three straight home runs to start the World Series tied him with Hank Bauer in 1958 and Barry Bonds in 2002 for the same feat. Moreover, he ties George Springer's record to a homer in five straight World Series games.
Freddie Freeman's grand slam caught by fan who thought he was going to dentist
The best baseball stories are made in October. Freddie Freeman's Game 1 grand slam ball was caught by a fifth grader named Zachery, who was initially told by his father that they were going to the dentist.
Much to his surprise, Zachery's father took him to Dodger Stadium instead, where he would go on to catch the ball Freeman struck in left center field.
“When he hit the ball, we knew it was leaving the park, but we had no idea we were going to catch it.” Zachary said via NBC LA. “The ball bounced on the seat in front of us and rolled on the ground a little bit. Then I got it.
“Everyone wanted to get a picture with me. Everyone wanted to see the ball. I was just mobbed."
Zachery's father described the emotion his boy went through after catching the home run ball.
“He was just crying – the tears streaming down his eyes and a big smile on his face,” Nico, Zachary’s dad added. “He had just tears of joy.”
Someday, this ball would be worth a lot, as is the case with many historic home run balls this season.
