World Series prize money: How much are 2024 champions Dodgers and runners-up Yankees expected to make?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the 2024 World Series winners. The NL West team came from behind in a remarkable Game 5 to clinch the Fall Classic 4-1 against the New York Yankees on Wednesday.
The Dodgers trailed the Yankees 5-0 after three innings. However, they completed the biggest comeback in a World Series game to clinch the title for the second time in five years.
Los Angeles Dodgers expected prize money
The MLB does not have fixed prize money for the World Series winners, as the league distributes the postseason revenue among the World Series participants.
The winners will take the larger share of the revenue, around 36%. This means Dave Roberts' team is expected to earn around $35 million.
New York Yankees expected prize money
Although the Yankees were second best in the Fall Classic, they are expected to get a 24% share of the revenue, which is expected to be around $25 million.
The prize money for each team will be distributed among the players and the coaching staff. The prize pool for the teams is allocated from the first two wild-card series games, the first three Division Series games the first four championship series games, and the World Series.
Last year's champions, the Texas Rangers, who won the World Series for the first time in their history, reportedly pocketed around $38.8 million, later divided into shares.
Runners up, the Arizona Diamondbacks reportedly made $25.9 million as the total pool was around $107.8 million.
Who gets the prize money on the teams?
The teams are allowed to decide how to split the prize money among players, coaching and non-coaching staff. The Rangers split their prize money in 64 full and 12.56 partial shares while the Diamondbacks split it in 71 full and 11.49 partial shares.
