Yankees commit to Aaron Boone for 2025 despite crushing World Series defeat to Dodgers

Aaron Boone officially has one more year with the New York Yankees. His contract was technically up after the 2024 season, though the team had an option if they wanted to keep him without signing a new contract. That's exactly what they've done now.

Boone brought the Yankees to the World Series for the first time since 2009. They fell short, but Boone's work as manager was enough last year to convince ownership and the front office to give him at least one more shot.

The Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games, and while Boone's bullpen decision was criticized in a few different games, the team believes it has the manager they want for 2025.

Brian Cashman defended Aaron Boone before picking up option

Before exercising the team option to officially bring him back, GM Brian Cashman made his feelings known about Aaron Boone. The Yankees manager had Cashman's vote of confidence even after the series loss.

He said that Boone had a difficult job but did well (via the New York Post):

“The manager’s job is so impossible that you can play the game of second-guessing because you are either going to make a move and it will be right or make a move and it will be wrong and then have at it, right? I think he’s a really good manager."

The next comment Cashman made may have indicated that the team would keep Boone:

“We’re lucky to have him, he’s done a great job. It’s a very hard job to do and it gets harder in the postseason, because whatever you do either works or it doesn’t and there is no gray area.”

Boone has drawn the ire of fans for a very long time, but he is one of the most winning managers in baseball right now. He has made the playoffs all but one year and made the ALCS four times with one pennant win. The Yankees believe he's the man to continue leading them in 2025, and it will be interesting to see how he does.
