"Yankees were horrible"; "Collapsing and will miss playoffs" - Fans heartbroken as Bronx Bombers crumble down to another shocking loss vs. Mets

Fans are getting restless as the New York Yankees dropped their third straight game on Wednesday. The latest 12-2 defeat came against local rivals New York Mets at Citi Field, who now won both games to complete the sweep in the Subway Series.

Wednesday's game saw the Yankees surrender on both sides of the plate. They not only gave up 12 runs but also could only muster up two runs on offense. With the loss, they dropped to 52-30 and now they only lead by one game ahead of second-placed Baltimore Orioles (50-30) in the AL East.

Fans on the internet were quick to call out the Yankees for their poor showing:

"METS MAKING PLAYOFFS. YANKEES COLLAPSING AND WILL MISS PLAYOFFS," one fan commented.
"I knew the yankees were horrible but damn, yall actually reek," another added.
"This team is embarrassing. The All Star break can’t come soon enough," another wrote.

There were some divided opinions as well. While some fans said it's too early to mock, others see the Yankees missing the postseason already:

"I can’t believe I’m seeing people overreact to 1 bad game. We’re in a slump, I get it. However to say the Yankees aren’t a playoff team is just ridiculous. To everyone who thinks they won’t be playing in October, all I’m gonna say is don’t come to the parade in November," one fan wrote.
"start blowing this team up cause it’s not sniffing the playoffs," another added.
"Aaron Judge and Juan Soto reached base in 5 of 7 at bats. Rest of the lineup reached base in 7 of 30 ABs with nothing more than a single, until a meaningless 9th inning double with 3 double plays and 7 strikeouts. Team is borderline unwatchable," one fan highlighted.

While Aaron Judge and Juan Soto continue to drag the Yankees offense, the rest of the lineup simply hasn't done enough recently.

On Wednesday, Soto ground out two walks and scored one run in his two at-bats. Captain Judge blasted a two-run homer with the Yankees trailing 7-0 in the sixth. However, Anthony Volpe (0-5), DJ LeMahieu (0-4) and Ben Rice (0-4) were no-shows against Mets pitching.

On the mound as well, the Yankees faltered big time. Coming off an impressive May, Luis Gil has been the opposite, and his last two weeks suggest the same. Against the Mets, he gave up five earned runs in 4.1 innings while only striking out two hitters.

The Yankees need to direct their ship soon, as they need to keep up pace with the Orioles, who are waiting to get back on top.

The Bronx Bombers will look to bounce back immediately in the opening game of their four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Center on Thursday.
