Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez to participate in Old-Timers' Day as franchise set to honor him

New York Yankees great Alex Rodriguez will make his debut appearance at Yankee Stadium for Old-Timers' Day. This marks his first participation in the event since retiring eight years ago.

The Yankees' 2024 Old-Timers' Day is the 76th in franchise history and is part of the 15th-anniversary celebration of their 2009 World Series team. Rodriguez is a 14-time All-Star, a three-time AL MVP and a two-time Gold Glove awardee who was a key player on the Yankees' 2009 team.

In the postseason of their championship run, Rodriguez had a .365 batting average with 19 hits, six home runs, 18 RBIs and 15 runs scored in 15 games.

Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Hideki Matsui will also be joining A-Rod for the Aug. 24 event. CC Sabathia will also make his first appearance at the Yankees' Old-Timers' Day.

Alex Rodriguez made his last major league appearance with the New York Yankees on Aug. 12, 2016. He declined to play for any team in 2017 and instead became a special advisor to Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner.

After retiring, he became a media personality, serving as a broadcaster for Fox and joining ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball, among other media appearances.

Several Monument Park inductees and players with retired jerseys will join Yankees' 2024 Old-Timers' Day

Old-Timers' Day will be held before the Bronx Bombers' game against the Colorado Rockies next Saturday. As in recent seasons, this year’s event will not include an Old-Timers' Day game or batting practice.

Nine Monument Park inductees – including players with retired pinstripes jerseys – are set to attend the event. Some notable attendees include Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill, Andy Pettitte and Joe Torre.

Alex Rodriguez’s No. 13 jersey is still not retired by the Yankees and is currently worn by Jazz Chisholm Jr. Other members of the 2009 team expected to join the event include former outfielders Nick Swisher and Johnny Damon and pitcher A.J. Burnett.

Former manager Joe Girardi will also be present and join Yankees color commentator Suzyn Waldman for a Q&A session with the players.
