Yankees Trade Rumors: Bronx Bombers 'willing' to include Spencer Jones in a trade for Garrett Crochet or Tarik Skubal, per insider

The New York Yankees are reportedly willing to include their no. 1 prospect, Spencer Jones, in a trade for White Sox's Garrett Crochet or Detroit Tigers' Tarik Skubal.

Jones is currently a part of the Somerset Patriots, the Yankees' double-A affiliate. He is hitting at .238, with an OPS of .719 along with 10 HRs and 46 RBIs.

Yankees till now were reluctant to let go of their No.1 prospect and had kept him out of any trade negotiations. However, their recent slump seems to have finally made them rethink their decision. According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the team is now willing to include the young outfielder in a trade deal for Crochet or Skubal.

The Yankees have struggled with pitching and are therefore looking for reinforcements to close that gap and end their ongoing slump.

Crochet has been the talk of the town for his performance this season. He has made 20 starts for the White Sox, holding a 6-6 record with an ERA of 3.02, 0.95 WHIP and 150 strikeouts.

With the White Sox almost certain to miss out on the post-season, they might be interested in cashing in on the star pitcher for some good prospects in return. However, the team is rumored to be holding out for a bigger package from the Yankees and other interested clubs before the deadline day approaches.

Skubal is another pitcher the Yankees are interested in. The Tigers' Cy Young candidate has made 19 starts for the side this season, holding a 10-3 record, with 2.41 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 140 strikeouts.

However, this deal could be tricky for the Yankees as Skubal still has a contract with the Tigers until 2026. The team also has a slim chance of making it to the postseason as they are 5 Wild Card Games behind. So they might hold on to the pitcher to access a few more options before July 31st.

Yankees parting ways with Spencer Jones could be a problem for the club's future

The New York Yankees are facing a disappointing slump. While they are looking for a solution to this problem, including their top prospects and outfielder Spencer Jones in a trade could help them get their top targets and solve the current issue. However, it might also create more intense problems in the future.

The issue lies with Juan Soto's future at the club. While performing at the top level, he could become a free agent after this season if both parties don't reach a mutual decision to extend his stay at Bronx.

If the Yankees decide to solve this situation and make a few trades, they would likely need to let go of Jones for a move for Tarik Skubal or Garrett Crochet. But in doing so they might also be leaving their outfield uncovered for the next year.

Both Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo are set to be free agents in 2025. And with Jones gone too, the Yanks would have Aaron Judge, Jason Dominguez and maybe others.
