"Yeah I’m liking this trade" - Yankees fans esctatic as Jazz Chisholm Jr. picks up his first career hit as a Yankee
New York Yankees fans seem to be content after the team traded for Jazz Chisholm Jr. just before the trade deadline. On Saturday, the Miami Marlins dealt their star outfielder in return for three prospects, including C Agustin Ramirez (Yankees' No. 20 prospect), INF Jared Serna (No. 19 prospect) and INF Abrahan Ramirez.
A day after the trade was announced, Chisholm packed his bags, caught a flight and battled his way through traffic to make his pinstripe debut on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The versatile outfielder impressed in the ninth inning of the game, getting his first hit. He went 1-5 on the night and also scored a run.
Fans on the internet approved the trade as they now expect Jazz Chisholm to help the team make a deep postseason run.
"Letttsss goooo🔥 Welcome to New York," one fan commented.
"Now that confidence gonna be up yeah I’m liking this trade," another added.
One fan highlighted the amount of trouble he went to make his debut:
"Came in off the plane 5:50 no bp only cage work and still finds way to get on base and score!! 🙌🏽"
"Finally some god damn speed," one fan lauded his baserunning abilities.
"It was so nice watching somebody that fast on the Yankees," another added.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. keen to learn third base and help address one weakness of the Yankees
The former Marlins star is a versatile infielder and has experience playing all around the infield. This should help the Yankees who are not receiving the expected offense from the hot corner, which is played by DJ LeMahieu and Oswaldo Cabrera.
Upon being asked whether he'll play third base for the Yankees, Jazz Chisholm said (via NYDN's Gary Philips):
"I mean, I went out there and played CF for the first time last year, and I felt like it was pretty difficult at first, but I just feel like I could go and play anywhere and help my team win.
"For me, it's just going somewhere. Especially a winning team, and they're asking me to go somewhere to help them win? I'm definitely gonna go out there and do it."
With this acquisition, the Yankees management will hope Jazz Chisholm brings his defensive attributes and helps the franchise achieve big things in the near future.
