"You are the one deserving" - Francisco Lindor's wife Katia makes feelings known as Mets star joins Shohei Ohtani, Ketel Marte as NL MVP finalists
On Thursday, New York Mets infielder Francisco Lindor was named among the three finalists for the 2024 NL MVP by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Los Angeles Dodgers' designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Ketel Marte are the other two in the running for the award.
As pet most odds and analysts, Ohtani is the unanimous winner for the award, given his unprecedented season, hitting 54 home runs and 59 stolen bases, but there are some who feel Lindor's contribution on both sides of the plate should be recongnizwd, too.
After Thursday's announcement, Francisco Lindor's wife, Katia, endorsed the Mets shortstop as deserving of the award.
"Anyone who knows ball has seen how valuable you are not only on the offensive and defensive field, but also within the clubhouse, and knows that you are the one deserving of this award," Katia wrote on Instagram (translated to English).
While it's easy to see why Francisco Lindor has an outside chance to win it, odds favor Shohei Ohtani to emerge as the winner.
Proud wife Katia sang praise for Francisco Lindor and New York Mets
After the New York Mets bowed out of the postseason in the NLCS against the Dodgers, they did well to appease their fans after a string of poor performances over the years. Despite starting the season poorly, the team hustled back since the All-Star break, eventually claiming the final Wild Card spot.
The Mets outshone the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card round, followed by an upset divisional series win over the favorites, the Philadelphia Phillies. While they may not have won the NL pennant, Katia adored the Mets clubhouse, especially their de facto leader, Francisco Lindor, who led the team from the front.
"The 2024 New York Mets accomplished something truly magical," Katia wrote. "Though we didn’t reach the ultimate goal, this team defied the odds to get where it did, and that is no small achievement. But more than that, the unity, the raw emotion, and the unwavering determination this team showed is something we will forever carry with us.
"Speaking of special, @lindor12bc, you are the embodiment of what it means to be a leader and a captain. You carried this team with the grace and strength that only a true leader possesses.
"And while I know you would never take the credit, because that’s just who you are and indeed every single person in this organization played a role in our success, what you’ve done for this team and this franchise goes beyond what any stat or accolade could ever quantify. You are our MVP in every sense of the word."
It remains to be seen is if Lindor can beat the odds and beat Shohei Ohtani for the coveted NL MVP.
