“You're a .229 hitter and you're running around like you're Barry Bonds” - Jim Edmonds takes a jibe at Christopher Morel’s home run celebration

Chicago Cubs third baseman Christopher Morel seems to enjoy every moment when he cranks one in the stands. Morel's latest home run celebration has caught the attention of former MLB star Jim Edmonds.

The Cubs slugger smashed a home run against the Cardinals' pitcher, Andrew Kittredge. Edmonds, the broadcaster for the game, took a jab at Morel while he was trotting around the bases.

"This kid's celebration is a joke," Edmonds said on air. "I don't mind saying it at all. I've never seen anything like it. I just don't get it. You're a .229 hitter in the big leagues and you're running around like you're Barry Bonds."

After Edmonds' statement, his colleague Chip Caray diverted his attention to the fan who caught the ball.

“He’s caught two homers in this game. As we said, the Cubs can’t see him, he’s well-disguised," Caray said.

Morel was not the only one who was called out during the game. Edmonds also called out the fan who caught Morel's ball.

"He's caught two homers in this game. He's also taking up plenty of room out there. He's got people kinda blocked off," Edmonds said.

The Cubs won the game 8-3 against the Cardinals to improve to 47-51.

Christopher Morel's struggle continues

Though the Cubs slugger has smashed 18 home runs, Christopher Morel has a batting clip of .202 with a .303 OBP and a .690 OPS.

Morel has 50 RBIs, seven stolen bases and 42 runs in 341 plate appearances. The Cubs can use extra power at the plate, especially after top players like Cody Bellinger are sidelined. Craig Counsell has been on a rollercoaster ride since the start of this season.

It's not too late for the team to pick up the pace, as they remain 8.5 games behind the top team in their division.
