"You're not Corbin Burnes"; "It's just p****ng me off" - Fans annoyed as Boston Red Sox & Patrick Sandoval reportedly agree $18.25M deal
According to reports, the Boston Red Sox are finalizing a two-year, $18.25 million deal for left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval. MLB insider Jeff Passan took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday to share the reported agreement between the two parties.
Sandoval did not enjoy the best of seasons in 2024, struggling in the first half of the campaign, accumulating a 5.08 ERA, before Tommy John surgery ended his season prematurely in June.
Reacting to the big news, several fans were not sold on the deal, taking to X to criticize Boston's latest acquisition.
"You’re not Corbin Burnes."
"I’m not gonna complain about this signing but it’s just p*****g me off because it’s not a serious move lol."
"Another dumpster dive move, this organization is unbelievable," another fan posted.
"This team pisses me off," another frustrated fan wrote.
"I’ve never seen a bigger downfall than the once proud Boston Red Sox. What a shame man," another fan shared.
"WE WANT CORBIN BURNES! Patrick Sandoval it is then, Chief,” Another fan commented.
Whats next for the Boston Red Sox after securing Patrick Sandoval?
After coming under fire from fans after several seasons of passive or unambitious approach when it comes to acquiring talent, it appears the Boston Red Sox have set out to right some of their past shortcomings this offseason.
Craig Breslow and co. have already agreed terms with highly sought-after starting pitcher Garrett Crochet after a great 2024 season, and though Patrick Sandoval is not the big name many fans would be hoping for, there is definitely potential for the pitching staff.
The likes of Jack Flaherty, Corbin Burnes and Walker Buehler are also available as free agents, and there are no signs that suggest that the Red Sox are not going to compete to sign at least one of those as well.
On the offensive side of things, Teoscar Hernandez's contract is still very much an unresolved situation after a World Series-winning season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and there are strong reports that the Boston outfit are looking to pounce if any opening were to emerge, per NESN.
Fans will be hoping their front office can get plenty of business done this winter so that the team can head into the 2025 season much stronger than they ended 2024.
