"You're a Trojan for life. You're a Bruin for four years" - Aaron Boone playfully teases Dave Roberts about college baseball days heading into WS
Before their days managing some of the best in the game, both Aaron Boone and Dave Roberts had great careers themselves. Both played Division 1 baseball in college and were drafted during the 1993 and 1994 MLB draft.
The two were familiar with each other during their college days, playing each other over the years. Now, the two will meet in the biggest baseball game of the year, the World Series.
Ahead of Friday's Game 1 matchup, Boone was asked about his college memories and how he felt about Roberts. Boone had nothing but good things to say about his college rival.
"He was a good player. Somebody I got to know a little bit at that poiint, just playing against him because he's such a great guy, but I remember him well," said Boone.
Boone certainly remembered Dave Roberts and just how good of a player he was. However, he could not end the questioning without taking a jab at the Dodgers manager.
"I'm a Trojan so as we all know and hear, 'You're a Trojan for life, you're a Bruin for four years'" said Boone.
The former rivalry between these two managers just adds to the magic of this World Series. This is shaping up to be one of the more exciting WS matchups fans have seen in quite some time.
Aaron Boone ready for "special' WS matchup between his Yankees and Dave Roberts' Dodgers
Both the Dodgers and Yankees have looked like two of the best teams nearly all season. Both clubs have made the most of this season, from their offense to their pitching staff.
Aaron Boone has high expectations for this final series. Especially given just how storied both of these franchises are.
"Dodgers-Yankees, two pillar franchises in the sport. Obviously with a lot of history going back a long, long time, and these two teams have met up a lot in the Fall Classic. Amazing it's been 43 years" said Boone.
Both clubs have met 11 times in the World Series, and after Friday, it will be their 12th. This is by far the most time two teams have played each other in the World Series.
The Yankees have the edge on the Dodgers, winning eight of their 11 meetings. So, Dave Roberts and the Dodgers will certainly be looking for some revenge and to make the record more in their favor.
