Young collector strikes gold with 1/1 Jackson Holliday rookie card in once-in-a-lifetime pull at local hobby shop
A young collector in Sacramento, California, has struck gold by pulling a 1-of-1 collector's item, the Baltimore Orioles' Jackson Holliday's gold rookie card.
The trading card manufacturer Topps posted a picture of the little girl holding the card with a joyous look on her face.
Per the post, the collector and her mom were given a free pack of baseball cards upon visiting a local card shop in Sacramento. And that's where she made the pull of a lifetime with Holliday's card.
The Baltimore Orioles selected Jackson Holliday with the first overall pick in the 2022 MLB draft straight out of high school. He received an $8.19 million signing bonus.
He was called up to the big leagues on April 10 and was assigned the No. 7 jersey on the Orioles team. He made his debut at Fenway Park against the Red Sox and managed to rake in an RBI.
But his maiden stint in the big leagues was short-lived, as he managed a miserly batting average of .059 (2 of 34) in 10 games. As a result, Holliday was optioned back to the Norfolk Tides on April 26.
Jackson Holliday produced emphatic results with the Tides to receive a second call-up
The 20-year-old was undeterred by his earlier slump in the MLB, as he impressed with a batting average of .259, with eight home runs and 29 RBIs in 63 games with the Norfolk Tides in the MiLB.
As a result of his improved performances at the plate, Jackson Holliday received a second call-up with the Orioles on July 31. Since returning to the MLB, he is hitting .199, with five home runs, 20 RBIs, and .612 OPS.
Holiday now looks set to make his first postseason run this season. The O's occupy the first of three American League wild card spots.
