Randal Grichuk Landing Spots: 3 teams that could sign the veteran outfielder after strong season with Diamondbacks
Randal Grichuk enjoyed an underrated and strong season in 2024 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After signing a one-year, $2 million deal to join the D-Backs last offseason, Grichuk declined his option for 2025, instead opting to test the market as an unrestricted free agent.
Last season for the Diamondbacks, Grichuk posted a career-high .291 batting average with 12 home runs and 46 RBIs. What he lacked in power numbers in 2024, he more than made up for in batting average. It will be interesting to see if he can bring his power numbers back up (hit 31 home runs in 2019) without sacrificing the adjustments he has made at the plate.
He will undoubtedly draw interest from clubs looking to bolster their outfields, as well as their lineups, given his positive impact at the plate. Grichuk's ability to play all three outfield positions should also help him secure a decent contract this offseason.
Here's a closer look at 3 potential landing spots for Randal Grichuk in free agency
#1, Arizona Diamondbacks
A return to the Arizona Diamondbacks could be in the best interest of both parties. Not only did Grichuk enjoy one of the best seasons of his career with the D-Backs, but the club is also considered one of the top clubs in the National League. The familiarity with the club, as well as his previous success with the Diamondbacks, could tempt him to come back, as long as he gets the salary bump he is seeking.
#2, Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox could be an interesting landing spot for Randal Grichuk. Although the club has been linked to superstar Juan Soto in free agency, if they were to miss out, they will still need to reinforce their outfielder core. A move to Fenway Park could help Grichuk see his home run numbers rise without sacrificing his plate discipline given the power-friendly dimensions in Boston.
The Boston Red Sox are looking to return to postseason contention in 2025 and bringing in a proven batter such as Grichuk could help that cause. Playing next to stars such as Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers could also be appealing for the veteran slugger.
#3, Toronto Blue Jays
Speaking of reunions, the Toronto Blue Jays could use a consistent hitter like Randal Grichuk back in their dugout. A fan favorite during his first tenure with the club, Grichuk could be the under-the-radar signing that could help the Blue Jays improve the disappointing production they had in 2024. During his four seasons in Toronto, Grichuk clobbered 90 homers, which could benefit the club in 2025.
