Luis Severino Free Agency Rumors: Blue Jays eyeing former Mets 2x All-Star amid Juan Soto pursuit

The Toronto Blue Jays come into the offseason with a few holes to fill. They are one of a handful of teams that have already made an offer to superstar free agent Juan Soto, but that is not the only player they have their eyes on.

Toronto needs to upgrade its starting rotation over the winter. According to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholsen-Smith, they are interested in veteran RHP Luis Severino, via SNY.

Severino had a solid season with the New York Mets in 2024. He started 31 games, compiling an 11-7 record with a 3.91 ERA and 161 strikeouts over the course of 182 innings.

As mentioned earlier, the Blue Jays have shown interest in Juan Soto. They were one of five teams that have already met and offered the slugger a contract for 2025.

Signing Soto would instantly give the club a boost in the always-tough American League East. They need a superstar to pair with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.

According to Ben Nicholsen-Smith, outside of Severino and Soto, Toronto is also interested in Alex Bregman. Bregman is the top third baseman on the open market and that is an area the club could upgrade.

Adding Bregman could push Ernie Clement into a utility role. Clement most of the work at third base, but would be a much better option for Toronto as a utility player.

Anthony Santander is another player to watch out for here. According to Bob Nightengale, Toronto has a strong interest in the slugger who is coming off a great year in Baltimore.

Toronto has a lot of options they can go to during the winter. They will be one team that could be plenty busy over the next few months.
