Mason Miller Trade Rumors: MLB insider believes Phillies could make strong push for stud closer
Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller has been one of the few bright spots for the club this season. In 25 appearances, he holds a 2.27 ERA, saving 12 games on 31.2 innings of work.
With the MLB trade deadline approaching, his name has popped up a lot lately. Multiple teams are in on the young hard-throwing closer and it could turn into a bidding war with the ceiling he holds.
However, one team stands out more than the rest. According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, he can see the Philadelphia Phillies aggressively trying to acquire some bullpen help.
Heyman mentions that Phillies president Dave Dombrowski enjoys hard-throwing relievers, and Miller is the best out there. Although, they do already have Jose Alvarado, who has pitched well this season.
if the Phillies were to acquire Miller, they could use him and Alvarado in a platoon role. The two could switch between set-up man and closer depending on the upcoming situation.
The Phillies are not the only ones interested in Mason Miller
The Philadelphia Phillies are certainly not the only team interested in Mason Miller. Multiple other teams are expected to jump in the mix once things start to heat up soon.
Relief pitchers are typically a big part of the trade deadline every year, helping contending teams get stronger. One team that could use another relief pitcher more than most is the Baltimore Orioles.
The club has a legitimate shot at winning a World Series title with some bullpen upgrades. Currently, they have Craig Kimbrel, but he has fallen off over the last few years.
The Athletic's Jim Bowden sees Baltimore as a perfect landing spot for Miller. He would instantly improve the team's bullpen, making them an even bigger threat.
