"She had 50 people around her including my son" - Red Sox broadcaster gets schooled by son on podcaster Alex Cooper's identity ahead of first pitch
Although baseball is seldom a topic of discussion on host Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, the 29 year-old comedic figure is no less well-known in sports circles. On Wednesday, the extent of her fame was put on full display at Fenway Park.
Known for her weekly advice and comedy podcast, Cooper was invited to throw out the first pitch at Fenway Park on Wednesday night. Although the NESN Red Sox commentators were not exactly sure what to make of the furor around Cooper, it appears as though their kids knew exactly how important this guest was.

During the early stages of the Red Sox' game against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night, NESN commentator Dave O'Brien shared his confusion about the entourage that Alex Cooper arrived with. However, he also claimed that his son knew exactly who Cooper was highlighting the fact that "she had 50 people around her including my son."
Born in Pennsylvania, Alex Cooper attended Boston University before moving to New York City. In 2018, she launched the Call Her Daddy podcast with her roommate. Before long, the show was attracting thousands of listeners and was acquired by Barstool Sports in 2018.
In 2021, Cooper was approached by Spotify, who wanted to purchase the rights to her podcast. Cooper subsequently signed a three-year deal with Spotify worth a total $60 million. On account of the blockbuster contract, Cooper is now the highest-paid female podcaster in the world, and second only to Joe Rogan, who has a deal with Spotify of his own.

Although the NESN commentary booth had not heard of Cooper, several thousand fans at Fenway Park had. After her appearance, Cooper took to Instagram to commend the occasion, saying:
'All of my ex-boyfriends, I'm speaking directly to you, the Red Sox have asked me, not you, to throw the first pitch at Fenway Park'
Although the game ended in a rain delay, there is no doubt that several fans got to see the main spectacle before the game even began.
