Tim Collins, Francisely Bueno placed on Disabled List

Kansas City pitchers Tim Collins and Francisely Bueno have been placed on the Disabled List (DL), according to Royals beat writer Andy McCullough. Collins is listed with a flexor strain in his left elbow, while Bueno was said to have a sprain/bone bruise in his left little finger.

Collins continued to struggle in the game on Sunday, and has not been able to do a whole lot since the season began, appearing in two games while only accounting for 3 outs of work to the tune of 4 runs on 4 walks and 2 hits. His inability to find the strike zone is a problem he has had in the past, but not to the extent he has suffered in the early going this season.

While his 36.00 ERA would seem to be indicative of the possibility the Royals brass may simply be feigning injury in order to give him time to get his mind right with some time off and a few injury appearances in Omaha, Brian Bannister believes he may have actual problems based on his body language in his last start.

Bueno has allowed a trio of hits and 2 runs (1 earned) so far in 2014, but has not allowed any walks. He has appeared in a pair of games and has also tallied 1 total inning of work.

The Royals bullpen has struggled so far this year, and to replace these two, the Royals have called on Donnie Joseph and Michael Mariot. Joseph came up for a cup of coffee with the Royals last season, and pitched 5 2/3 innings, not allowing any runs with 7 k’s. Mariot will be making his major league debut after appearing in 47 games for AAA Omaha in 2013, with a 3.56 ERA and 66 K’s in 60 2/3s innings of work.
