David Festa is having a solid rookie year for the Minnesota Twins and has a 32.7% K rate and 10.84 K/9. He is up against the Tampa Bay Rays, a team without a dominant offense, today, but the line is fairly high. Take the under.
4) Chris Sale: Over 8.5 (-140)
Over 8.5 is an absurdly high line, but this is Chris Sale. He's likely to win the NL Cy Young and he's been brilliant: 32.4% strikeout percentage and 11.54 K/9. Today, he's up against the Colorado Rockies, which suggests a big day is in line. The odds think he'll have at least nine strikeouts.
3) Paul Skenes: Over 6.5 (-130)
Paul Skenes has been brilliant this year for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The rookie pitcher is striking out 32.3% of the batters he has faced and is averaging 11.23 per nine innings. It doesn't much matter who he's facing, but today he gets the Chicago Cubs, which is a solid matchup.
2) Stevan Matz: Over 3.5 (-160 Safest pick of the day)
Steven Matz has been striking out virtually no one. He has a 13.4% K rate and a 5.53 K/9, both exceptionally low numbers. However, the line is just 3.5, making it one of the lowest. He should be able to get four strikeouts today.
1) Ryne Nelson: Over 5.5 (+115 Bold Prediction of the day)
Ryne Nelson is today's bold prediction. He will face the San Francisco Giants and he has poor strikeout numbers (19.6% K rate and 7.39 K/9). However, the Giants are coming off a series loss against the Miami Marlins, and thus they could be aggressive at the plate, giving Nelson a good chance to get six strikeouts.
