Tom Brady was once complimented by former Expos GM on his baseball skills
The former Montreal Expos and Los Angeles Dodgers manager talked about how great of a baseball player Tom Brady could have been. In a 2017 interview with Bleacher Report, Kevin Malone talked about the greatness Brady could have brought into the MLB.
Malone had approached a young Tom Brady and handed him a flier when he visited Brady's high school. However, his attempts were unsuccessful as Brady had his heart set on football.
Malone was asked what might have happened if Brady had chosen baseball as his primary sport:
"I think he could have been one of the greatest catchers ever," said Malone. "I know that's quite a statement, but the projections were based on the fact we had a left-hand-hitting catcher, with arm strength and who was athletic... But his first love was football."
Brady chose football and Malone expressed his disappointment over the fact. MLB would surely have gained a valuable player if Tom Brady had gone the baseball route.
When Tom Brady was almost scouted by the former Expos Manager
Malone had quite a lot to say about Brady and his lost potential as a baseball player. He still seems to hold regret over Brady choosing football. While remembering the day when Malone went to scout Brady, he called the star NFL player an athletic young man.
"He was a very athletic young man. A big kid who had a great face, a major-league face. He had an athletic, strong body, but there was room for development."
"As a scout, one of the first things you look at is just the bodyβthe type of body, the athleticism and what kind of face does he have."
Many MLB fans might sigh over the magic Brady would have brought to baseball. NFL fans, on the other hand, are definitely glad that Tom Brady chose football over baseball. Well, those that support the New England Patriots or Tampa Bay Buccaneers, that is. Rival fanbases, not so much.
