“W BOHM POWER” “He’s hitting 100 bohmers this season” - Philadelphia Phillies fans go wild as Alec Bohm treats them to a preseason moonshot
Alec Bohm is wasting no time getting into the swing of things. The 26-year old Philadelphia Phillies star launched a first-inning moonshot against Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher JT Brubacher in Monday's spring training game at LECOM Park in Bradenton, Florida.
"Bohm Runs are BACK" - @ Philadelphia Phillies
The youngster, who has become known for his long hair and raw athleticism, became a fan favorite last year. Already, Phillies fans are using terms of endearment as they gear up for another season with Bohm at third base.
Last season was the season that Alec Bohm really came into his own. His 13 home runs, 72 RBIs and .280/.315/.398 led observers to classify him as one of the game's best young players.
Bohm was drafted third overall by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018. At 6-foot-5, Bohm moves with dexterity and hits for power. He also gained valuable experience in 2022 by appearing in his first postseason, hitting a home run and three RBIs in the Phillies' World Series loss to the Houston Astros.
Appearing in 135 games last season, Bohm has more or less solidified his role as a starter. Fans are already predicting some big numbers out of the Nebraska native for 2023.
This year, Alec Bohm will be asked to take an even bigger role in his team. With Phillies star Bryce Harper expected to be out until the All-Star break, Bohm will likely be hitting somewhere between Kyle Schwarber and new arrival Trea Turner.
The 2020 NL Rookie of the Year Award runner-up appeared in 44 games in his rookie season. The then-23 year old hit .338/.400/.481 with four home runs and 13 RBIs. Onlookers knew that this kid had the goods from an early point.
How many home runs can Alec Bohm hit in 2023?
Although Phillies fans would like to think that Alec Bohm could blast 100, it might be more realistic to expect him to drive out between 20 and 30 long ones. There is no doubt that he has a long and eventful career ahead of him, and Phillies fans will get to watch.
