When Biogenesis founder alleged Alex Rodriguez resorted to code language to talk about PEDs
It seems that no matter what Alex Rodriguez does, his reputation will forever be marred by his past PED use. Over the years, several people who were involved in the scandal have given interviews regarding Rodriguez's actions.
In a 2014 interview with CBSE news, Anthony Bosch, the former Biogenesis owner, revealed details never heard before about Rodriguez. Bosch was the primary supplier of PEDs to athletes back in the steroid era.
Bosch alleged that he and Rodriguez talked about PEDs through Blackberry Messages (BBM). They had ensured that no one would understand what was being said, so they used code names for the drugs. Some of the messages were:
Rodriguez's message read: "Really good. Explosive."
Bosch replied with:
"Go with same protocol."
In the interview, Bosch discussed how he had given Alex Rodriguez testosterone lozenges to take at a precise time. These lozenges were supposed to enhance Rodriguez's performance, but at the same time, they would hide the drug's presence in a blood test.
If a blood test was to be conducted, it would have already left Rodriguez's system. A-Rod had given the drugs specific names in order to not get caught.
Other texts sent to Alex Rodriguez from Bosch read:
"One click of night cream at night, one cohete at night, one click of night cream in the morning, one gummy in the a.m., four clicks of day cream before leaving the field, one cohete in a.m., pink cream before the game, any oral pills in the a.m."
Rodriguez called the testosterone lozenges "gummies" because they were small white pills that were easily mistaken for chewing gum. Another testosterone cream was called "night cream" because A-Rod would use it the night before a match.
Alex Rodriguez also allegedly used testosterone, insulin growth factor one, human growth hormones, and peptides, according to Bosch.
When Alex Rodriguez wanted to be in the 800 Home Run Club
In the same interview with CBSE, Bosch spoke about one of Rodriguez's motivations for taking PEDs.
Alex Rodriguez started getting drugs from Bosch in 2010. He met Bosch for the first time, just five days before making history with his 600th home run. According to the former Biogenesis owner, when they first met, Rodriguez asked about what was given to Manny Rodriguez to enhance his performance.
Bosch went into more detail about Rodriguez's motivations:
"Alex cared. Alex wanted to know. He would study the product. He would study the substances."
He added:
"He would study the dosages because he wanted to achieve all his human performance or in this case, sports performance objectives."
And Bosch continued with:
"And the most important one was the 800 Home Run Club."
Alex Rodriguez wanted to be the only join this 800 Home Run Club. The desire to perform better and become a legend was A-Rod's primary motivation for taking the PEDs.
