When Carlos Beltran took shots at New York Mets management for trying to ruin his reputation
MLB star Carlos Beltran played for the New York Mets from 2005 to 2011. Things did not turn out very well between Beltran and the Mets. In 2013, when the Yankees unveiled Beltran as their newest player, Beltran called out the Mets management for trying to ruin his reputation.
“A lot of people have the misunderstanding I didn't enjoy New York,” Beltran said, per John Harper of New York Daily News. "They’re wrong. It’s just that when you don’t win, everything is a failure. The organization tried to paint me as a bad apple,” Beltran said.
Such instances included Beltran's 2011 knee surgery, which the Mets protested, and his 2010 absence from a function to visit injured soldiers at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Beltran added:
“But when somebody’s trying to hurt you in a personal way, trying to put things out there that are not me, then we have trouble," Beltran told Harper. "Now it’s personal."
Beltran was signed by Mets management in 2005 to a seven-year, $119 million contract.
Carlos Beltran joined the Mets as a special assistant
Carlos Beltran joined the Mets as a special assistant to general manager Billy Eppler. He is now eager to help the team develop and cooperate with Eppler to accomplish the organization's objectives. He is not, however, completely excluding himself from managing the Mets in the future.
"At this point, I'm thinking about what I have to what I have to do for the organization and what are the things that Billy want me to do for him and for the team. But you can never say no [to a managing position]. You can never say no when you love the game," said Beltran in a clip posted by SNY on Twitter.

Since this was Carlos Beltran's first position with the Mets since losing his job as the team's manager owing to his involvement in the 2017 Houston Astros cheating incident, his return to the franchise made headlines.
