When former Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun's untruthful denial about PEDs precipitated his fall from grace, shattering fans' trust in him
Ryan Braun was once a star player for the Milwaukee Brewers. Unfortunately, Braun's storied baseball career was marred by an untruthful denial about PED use.
Braun used performance-enhancing drugs near the end of the 2011 season, which he admitted in 2013. Braun had been lying for more than a year before that and also asked for support from fellow teammates and fans.
The All-Star's untruthful denial about PEDs precipitated his fall from grace, shattering fans' trust in him.
As reported by the New York Times in 2012, Braun said:
“We were able to get through this because I am innocent and the truth is on our side. We provided complete cooperation throughout, despite the highly unusual circumstances.
“I have been an open book, willing to share details from every aspect of my life as part of this investigation, because I have nothing to hide. I have passed over 25 drug tests in my career, including at least three in the past year.”

Because of his capacity for both power and average hitting, baserunning speed, and superior fielding and arm strength, Braun was regarded as a five-tool player.
Ryan Braun's involvement in the 2013 biogenesis scandal
Following a year-long investigation into biogenesis by the MLB, Braun and many others were found to have made transactions with the business (and its creator, Tony Bosch) in Miami.
Braun said that he used a cream and lozenge to boost his testosterone and give him a competitive edge. The document's chronological range seemed to match Braun's positive test results.
As a result, he was suspended by the MLB for the remainder of the 2013 season.
On Sporting News' 2012 list of the 50 greatest active baseball players, Ryan Braun came in at number seven.
He received five Silver Slugger medals (2008-12) and was awarded the National League Rookie of the Year in 2007. Braun was crowned the league's MVP in 2011 and was selected for five straight All-Star Games (2008-12). In 2015, he was selected for a team-high sixth All-Star Game.
His false denails forever tarnished his reputation among fans, who were unhappy not just by the PED use, but also at being lied to.
