When former New York Mets star Keith Hernandez opened up about his love affair with Real Housewives fame Luann de Lesseps

In a candid sit-down with Andy Cohen on his show Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in May 2018, former St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Keith Hernandez divulged his past romance with American socialite and model Luann de Lesseps.

Hernandez recalled meeting Lesseps somewhere in Manhattan for the first time and described it as like it was almost love at first sight.

“I met her in Manhattan somewhere I forget, and she was absolutely gorgeous,” he recalled. “I chased her like a hound.”

Hernandez did eventually concede to Cohen that he did have a brief moment with the television personality, adding that he would refer it to as “friends with benefits” more than dating.

“Oh, it was a brief moment,” Hernandez concluded.

Nothing serious, however, surfaced from the pair's relationship and the two went their separate ways.

Keith, who was married once before his encounter with De Lesseps, married once again. He married Kai Thompson in 2005. They divorced in February 2011.

Luann de Lesseps married Count Alexandre de Lesseps in 1993, and together they have two children, Noel and Victoria. They divorced in 2009. She married for a second time in December 2016 when she tied the know with Tom D’Agostino Jr. In August 2017, De Lesseps announced that she and D'Agostino were getting divorced.

Keith Hernandez was a five-time All-Star during his playing career

The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Hernandez in the 1971 MLB draft in the 42nd round. He made his Major League debut on Aug. 30, 1974, going 1-for-2 against and knocking in a run against his hometown team, the San Francisco Giants.

Hernandez played the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets. It culminated with a short stint with the Cleveland Indians.

Hernandez won two World Series titles during his playing career, one each with the Cardinals and Mets. Individually, he was named an All-Star five times and won the NL MVP in 1979. Keith also won one Gold Glove Award and two Silver Slugger Awards, and was once the NL batting champion.

With a truly glittering career, Keith Hernandez will go down as arguably one of the best defensive first basemen of all time.
