When Joe Torre knew Derek Jeter was destined for Yankees greatness following 1996 ALCS win
New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter was a star player and many fans, including Joe Torre, believed in the All-Star. Jeter is a five-time World Series champion and won many accolades during his MLB career.
Torre foretold Jeter's rise to stardom following the Yankees' 1996 ALCS win.
"Sometimes we're too quick to make stars out of people that haven't played long enough, but I think Derek is on his way," Torre said. What I like about him is that he's having fun and that's what baseball is all about."

According to NYMAG, Torre talked about Jeter's maturity and voiced his surprise in 2014. He said:
“Even though it was his first year in the big leagues, Derek was a finished product as a person. Very mature, responsible. He felt comfortable in his own skin. Other players need to be validated. Derek doesn’t need the attention.”
Along with being a fantastic MLB player, Jeter is a loving father to his daughters. With more than six years of marriage, Jeter and model Hannah Davis have three daughters.
Jeter played a big part in the Yankees' dynastic runs in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He guided the Yankees to four World Series championships between 1996 and 2000, and they added a fifth in 2009. He captained the Yankees from 2003 until his retirement in 2014 and was a 14-time MLB All-Star.
