When Matt Harvey wanted to follow in the footsteps of New York Yankees superstar Derek Jeter's dating style

In a discussion with the Men's Journal in July 2013, former New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey expressed ambitions to emulate New York Yankees superstar Derek Jeter's dating game.

Although Jeter is known for his athletic prowess, his off-field relationships have generated gossip and headlines throughout his prime time in MLB. Before settling down with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model Hannah Davis, he dated leading ladies like Mariah Carey, Minka Kelly, and Jessica Alba, among others. A long list of high-profile girlfriends created an aura of mystery around Derek.

Considering Jeter as his role model and aspiring to follow in the footsteps of the New York Yankees superstar's dating style, Matt Harvey said:

"That guy is the model. I mean, first off, let’s just look at the women he’s dated. Obviously, he goes out – he’s meeting these girls somewhere – but you never hear about it. That’s where I want to be."

Well, Matt wasn't far behind. He dated Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Anne Vyalitsyna in 2013-2014 after meeting her at a New York Rangers game. In 2015, Matt began dating Polish model Ania Cywinska, but they separated within less than a year. In March 2017, Harvey was spotted kissing Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima in Miami, Florida, during their short-lived fling.

Matt was selected as the seventh overall pick by the New York Mets in the 2010 first-year player draft. He made his MLB debut on July 26, 2012, against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona.

Here is a timeline of his MLB career after he was traded to the Reds from the Mets:

  • Cincinnati Reds (2018)
  • Los Angeles Angels (2019)
  • Kansas City Royals (2020)
  • Baltimore Orioles (2021)

On May 17, 2022, former New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey received a 60-game suspension for the distribution of a prohibited drug.

Apparently, in the federal trial for the death of former MLB pitcher Tyler Skaggs, Matt testified on February 15, 2022, that he had provided Skaggs with oxycodone pills. Tyler and Matt were teammates with the LA Angels at the time of the transactions. Harvey claimed to have acquired the prohibited drugs from Eric Kay, the former LA Angels' Director of Communications.

While Eric faces a minimum 20-year prison sentence related to the sudden death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs, Matt Harvey was suspended by MLB for violating the league's drug program.

On July 1, 2019, Tyler Skaggs was discovered comatose in his hotel room in Texas, where the LA Angels were playing against the Rangers. He was later declared dead. According to an autopsy, Tyler died of asphyxia after aspirating his own puke while high on fentanyl, oxycodone, and alcohol.
