When Miguel Cabrera struggled to maintain his on-field performance due to alcoholism
Miguel Cabrera was a star MLB player, but his storied baseball career was marred by alcoholism.
The All-Star once revealed how alcoholism impacted his on-field performance and how he struggled due to his habit. As reported by ESPN in 2010, Cabrera said:
"I never played drunk, but there were times where I was very tired or my body just felt lazy. I don't feel that way anymore."
Cabrera also went to a treatment program in Miami. Following a highly publicized drinking spree, the Detroit Tigers slugger spent three months in an outpatient treatment program for alcoholism.
"I've worked very hard with my doctors and my family this winter, and I'm going to keep working," Cabrera said.
Seeking help can be hard, and Cabrera should be lauded for fighting his addiction.

Miguel Cabrera will look to build on record-breaking career next season
In career home runs and hits by a Venezuelan player, Cabrera has surpassed Andrés Galarraga and Omar Vizquel respectively. He became the eighth player in MLB history to join the club of players with 500 home runs and 3,000 hits in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

At the age of 20 in 2003, Cabrera made his MLB debut. Later that year, he helped the Marlins win the World Series.
Before being traded to the Detroit Tigers ahead of the 2008 season, Cabrera played regularly for the Marlins over the course of the next four seasons.
Cabrera will be looking forward to the future, both on the field and off it. Although the Tigers aren't among the bookmakers' favorites for the World Series, you can be sure that they will fight all the way.
