When New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter dreaded media scrutiny during his Hall of Fame career

New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter was determined to keep his private life under wraps and away from the media. The All-Star once disclosed how social media scrutiny affected him during his spectacular MLB career.

As reported by Business Insider in 2015, Jeter said:

"I was always scared that I'd see my name and then scroll to see what they're [the media] saying. And I didn't want to deal with that when I was playing. I'd tell my family and friends, 'If you read something or hear something, don't tell me about it.' I didn't want to read negativity.
"I always knew that my job was to limit distractions for my team and not cause headlines. So I kept a lot of things to myself."

Jeter had also discussed it with Chris Myers in a 2013 interview. When Myers questioned Jeter about his personal life in New York and how the public was interested in knowing where he was, Jeter replied:

“I’ve grown up here. I’ve been here since I was 20-years-old. I know people are curious to know, but I think there has to be some line drawn, and I try to keep some things private. I don’t open up about everything.”
