When New York Yankees legend and HOFer Derek Jeter reflected on his life outside of baseball
In an interview with ABC news, Derek Jeter talked about his life after retiring and missing his Yankees teammates.
During the interview, Jeter was asked why he has not been relaxing with all the time he had gained since retiring. The former Yankees captain replied by saying that he had tried doing so but got tired of all the relaxation he had done.
"I am actually busier now than when I had to play. I tried to take it easy for a couple of weeks but then I got bored," Jeter said.
The video of the interview is posted below, with the timestamp at 1:01.
Jeter was also asked what he missed most about playing and he had a very thoughtful answer.
"I miss the camaraderie, I miss being in the clubhouse with my teammates. I don't actually miss the long trips at 4'o clock in the morning."
Based on the answer given by the Yankees legend, we can tell that Jeter cared quite a lot about his teammates. Seeing that he was such a great captain, the sentiment was felt by his teammates as well.
Derek Jeter shares his thoughts on athletes speaking up on social issues
During the same interview, Derek Jeter was asked many questions about his life after retirement, as well as his time at the Yankees. But his thoughts on athletes talking about social issues left a greater impact.
The interviewer asked for Derek Jeter's opinion about athletes such as Michael Jordan trying to raise their voices on social issues.
"I think a lot of times athletes get a hard time for not speaking up, and when they do speak, people tell them to be quiet," Jeter said.
"I think it's entirely up to them."
But what Jeter thinks on the matter is pretty simple. He said that athletes are individuals and so have the right to share what they believe in.
Jeter, being a spotlight athlete himself, could relate to this as he would have also faced such situations. And so, the shortstop's answer might have come from a place of his own experience.
