When Yankees legend Derek Jeter slammed a fan for believing decade-old rumored gift basket tale: "You're a f–-kin' idiot!"

Derek Jeter cleared out some ridiculous rumors regarding him in the documentary The Captain, which was released in 2022 on ESPN.

The rumor started when a New York Post article published in 2011 stated that Jeter gave out gift baskets to his one-night stands. These gift baskets had his merchandise with his autograph on them.

The source for the New York Post report was a friend of one of Jeter's previous hookups. The article heavily implied that Jeter had a lot of flings that only lasted one night and that he was a bit of a narcissist.

The friend of the ex-hookup said, according to New York Post:

“Derek has girls stay with him at his apartment in New York, and then he gets them a car to take them home the next day. Waiting in his car is a gift basket containing signed Jeter memorabilia, usually a signed baseball.”

However, in the documentary, Derek Jeter was quick to put a stop to such eccentric rumors about him. The former Yankees captain couldn't even believe such an article was written about him.

"Yeah, I read the article. Yeah, of course. You know, you see it, and then it’s like, how the f**k did people come up with this? You know, basically, that’s it. And who would believe this s**t? And you believed it!"

The Yankees shortstop even recalled an incident where he snapped at a fan because of rumors going around about him that the fan believed.

"I remember being at a Starbucks one time and there’s some random guy behind me and he says, 'Hey, I just want to let you know that I’m giving out gift baskets because you did.' And I turned around and said, 'You’re a f**kin’ idiot!’ and the look on his face… like, did he think I was gonna say, 'Yeah, good job, man!'"

Jeter added that the rumor grew too big and that everyone believed it to be real.

Derek Jeter praises Anthony Volpe for becoming the starting shortstop of the Yankees

Anthony Volpe is the upcoming star of the Yankees shortstop. He made his MLB debut in the 2023 season. Before that, he used to play for the Pulaski Yankees, a subsidiary minor league team of the Yankees.

Derek Jeter congratulated the 21-year-old when he was selected for the Yankees Opening Day roster.
