Why did Mookie Betts threaten to beat up Usher? Reason behind Dodgers star’s playful warning to protect his wife, explored
Mookie Betts is protective for his wife, Brianna, whom he has known since childhood. Popular pop artist Usher is scheduled to do a concert on Sept. 21 at Induit Dome in Inglewood, California. However, there's one thing the R&B singer must not do if he wants to avoid getting elbows from the Dodgers outfielder.
Usher Raymond IV earned recognition in the late 1990s following the release of his second album. He has won eight Grammy Awards and 18 Billboard awards.
During Sunday's game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, Betts was mic'd up, where he explicitly sent a warning to Usher, asking him not to include his wife's name during his songs. The word he used was not to "serenade his wife."
"It was a good meeting," Betts said. "I told him that I was able to go to his last show. He goes around and serenades the women. And I'm like, 'this is awesome'. I'd seen women melt.
"Then I told him. 'Listen, Usher, I'll mess with you the long way, the longest of long ways. But if you come over and serenade my wife, I'm throwing elbows at you.' I told him that I'm diving in on him. Immediately."
This is a part of the conversation Mookie Betts had with Usher the other night. And it seems Betts has given an ultimatum to Usher on what's to follow if he mentions the name of his wife.
What Usher replied to Mookie Betts
Usher had the courage to tell Mookie Betts to his face that he might do so on his next tour.
"No, he had the confidence to tell me, 'hey, I'm going back out on tour, so there's another chance.' I'm like, 'hold on, wait, Usher, no.' But, you know, it is what it is. He gotta do what he gotta do," Betts said.
Given the history of Usher and how often he namedrops women in his songs, there's no telling what's to come, but it all seems like friendly fire at the moment.
