Yankees legend Derek Jeter once received an apology from the US Air Force

In July 2016, New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter received an apology from the US Air Force. This came after his boat drifted into a restricted military area near the MacDill military base in Tampa.

Jeter was apparently stopped by Air Force security officers and charged a $270 fee. The story broke after a member of the US Air Force shared a photo on Facebook of a penalty given to the former shortstop for boating in a prohibited area.

Since making the news public was against Air Force standards, the Air Service branch component of the United States Armed Forces issued an apology. Here's what they said to the Hall of Famer in a news release:

"This action is totally inconsistent with Air Force values and the responsible airman will face the appropriate disciplinary action. We sincerely apologize to Mr. Jeter for any inconvenience.”

Terry Montrose, a spokeswoman at MacDill Air Force Base, later denied identifying the concerned airman who ticket-shamed Derek.

In 2012 while still playing for the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter purchased a waterfront Tampa home that was custom-built for him and his family. The plush 30,875 square feet property was fondly nicknamed “St. Jetersburg” by the baseball legend.

Not many are aware that NFL legend Tom Brady and his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen rented Jeter's waterfront mansion for $75,000 a month in 2020. Jeter sold the residence for a whopping $22.5 million in May 2021.
