3 teams that can draw up a realistic trade package for Lauri Markkanen
According to reports, Lauri Markkanen could be on his way out of Utah. While the team has expressed a desire to retain the standout forward, there has been plenty of trade talk surrounding The Finnisher. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Jazz have their sights set on re-signing Markkanen this offseason as he heads into the final year of his deal.
Despite that, teams are reportedly aggressively pursuing the 2023 All-Star. From championship contenders to teams in the process of rebuilding, a number of teams from around the league would benefit greatly from Lauri Markkanen's offense.
Last season, Markkanen averaged 23.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, while averaging a career-high 2.0 assists per game. He also remained efficient, shooting 48.0% from the floor and 39.9% from three-point land.
With that in mind, let's take a look at three teams who can put together realistic trade packages for the NBA's 2023 Most Improved Player.
Three teams who can trade for Lauri Markkanen this offseason
#3: Houston Rockets
The Houston Rockets have been a team involved in a number of offseason trade rumors so far. Most notably, the team has been linked to Kevin Durant. However, it's unclear whether or not the Suns will look to break up their Durant-Booker-Beal trio.
With a slew of draft picks, and young assets, the Rockets could look to make a big move for Lauri Markkanen, who is set to earn $18M this season
#2: Philadelphia 76ers
It's no secret that the 76ers are looking to build around 2023 MVP Joel Embiid. This offseason, they have most notably been linked to Paul George. But if Utah is willing to hear offers on Lauri Markkanen, then Philly could make an intriguing offer.
While they may not have as many intriguing young pieces to offer as the Rockets, they do have two first-round picks next year. In addition, they also have two 2028 first-round picks they could include in a trade.
#1: OKC Thunder
The OKC Thunder have already shown this offseason that they want to capitalize on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's dominance. On the heels of their Alex Caruso-Josh Giddey trade, the team could look to unload some of their upcoming first-round picks for Lauri Markkanen.
This trade is intriguing for multiple reasons. Most notably, it could be the push OKC needs to become a true championship threat. Whether Markkanen is the final piece to the Thunder's championship puzzle, only time will tell.
