5 heaviest players on LA Lakers ahead of 2024-25 NBA season ft. LeBron James

LeBron James and the LA Lakers continue to gear up for the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season. Two of their six preseason matchups are already in the rearview mirror, with their third scheduled for Thursday against the Milwaukee Bucks.

While LA still has roster cuts to make before its Oct. 22 regular-season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves, its team is more-or-less set. The Lakers have 15 players on standard contracts and three on two-way contracts, putting them at the 18-player maximum.

LA was relatively inactive over the offseason outside of the draft, making fringe roster moves. Thus, the franchise is seemingly banking on first-time coach JJ Redick's innovation. Nevertheless, the Lakers still lack proven frontcourt depth and all-around size.

On that note, here are LA's five heaviest players ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

LA Lakers' 5 heaviest players entering 2024-25 NBA season

#3(T). Rui Hachimura (230 pounds)

Entering his sixth season and second full campaign with LA, forward Rui Hachimura is tied for the Lakers' third-heaviest player at 230 pounds.

Standing at 6-foot-8, Hachimura is set to start at power forward, providing efficient complementary scoring and outside shooting, and potentially improved rebounding.

#3(T). Christian Koloko (230 pounds)

One of LA's few offseason acquisitions, two-way contract center Christian Koloko also weighs 230 pounds.

Koloko missed his sophomore season with the Toronto Raptors after being diagnosed with blood clots last year. However, he remains on track to return soon as he continues working with the NBA's Fitness-to-Play Panel.

When available, the raw 7-1 big man should provide the Lakers with additional rebounding and rim protection.

#2(T). Colin Castleton (250 pounds)

Another reserve center, Colin Castleton is entering his second campaign as one of LA's three two-way contract players. The 6-11 big man is tied for the organization's second-heaviest player at 250 pounds.

However, despite his size, Castleton isn't expected to factor heavily into the Lakers' regular-season rotation after failing to do so last season.

#2(T). LeBron James (250 pounds)

Still thriving ahead of his record-tying 22nd campaign, superstar forward LeBron James is expected to spearhead LA's 2025 playoff push.

James, 6-9, is listed at 250 pounds, three pounds shy of his squad's heaviest player.

#1. Anthony Davis (253 pounds)

Perhaps unsurprisingly, superstar big man Anthony Davis, the Lakers' most imposing inside presence, is also their heaviest player at 253 pounds.

Davis, 6-10, is again tasked with manning the interior for LA as its top rebounder and rim protector by a wide margin. However, the nine-time All-Star is also expected to initiate more offense in JJ Redick's new offensive system.
