5 NBA players who had the ugliest divorces feat. Lamar Odom, Kris Humphries, and more
As much success as NBA stars have had on the floor, it hasn't always been smooth sailing off it. Several players have had high-profile marriages. However, their relationships weren't successful, despite fans considering these bonds as goals because of how these couples started.
Players like Michael Jordan and Lamar Odom were notable names who eventually had to undergo divorces. From cheating scandals to falling out of love within weeks of marriage, NBA stars have had to split with their partners for unsightly reasons.
On that note, here's a look at five NBA players who had the ugliest divorces.
#1 - Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian
Former LA Lakers star Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian's divorce was one of the most high-profile over the last decade, featuring an NBA player.
Odom and Kardashian married each other in 2009. They had a fairly successful relationship until 2013.
Odom was the culprit for the discrepancies in their marriage. The former Sixth Man of the Year's infidelity and drug addiction drove Khloe's decision to seek divorce. The couple officially filed for divorce in 2013, which got finalized in 2016.
#2 - Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy
All-time great Michael Jordan's personal life has been riddled with controversies. From gambling addictions to failed relationships, Jordan hasn't had the near-perfect record he did on the court. MJ's first marriage with model Juanita Vanoy lasted 17 years. However, their relationship was rocky after they tied the knot in 1989.
It started with Jordan questioning whether Jeffery, his eldest son, was his child. Jordan's extra-marital affairs were the most troublesome aspect of his marriage. After raising three children together, the couple finalized their divorce in 2006.
Michael Jordan was ordered to pay a settlement of $168 million, the largest at the time.
#3 - Jason Kidd and Joumana Kidd
Jason Kidd enjoyed a successful stint as a bonafide All-Star and won a championship as a player. He has remained in the league in a coaching capacity. He currently leads the charge for his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, one of the Western Conference heavyweights.
As good as his career as a player and a coach in the NBA has been, Kidd faced plenty of trouble during his marriage with Joumana Kidd. The two married in 1997 and had three children together.
In 2001, Jason Kidd was arrested after Joumana told the police that he hit her over a fight related to their son Trey Jason. The former NBA player pleaded guilty to the offense.
The Mavericks head coach filed for divorce in 2007, claiming that Joumana falsely accused him of domestic violence, interfered in his relationship with their children, and abused him physically and mentally.
#4 - Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian
Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian started dating in 2010 and tied the knot in 2011. Their marriage was one of the shortest ever among high-profile celebrities. Kardashian filed for divorce within a month, citing "irreconcilable differences." Their marriage lasted only 72 days.
Kardashian claimed she had "cold feet," leading to her abrupt decision to file for divorce. Some reports suggest she was upset about Humphries partying without her during the NBA lockout.
Humphries wasn't that big of a star during his time in the league. It was considered a narrative that drove the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star to file for a divorce.
#5 - Tony Parker and Eva Longoria
Tony Parker and Eva Longoria married each other in 2010. However, citing "irreconcilable differences," Longoria filed for divorce in 2013 after rumors of Parker's infidelity dominated the headlines. The former NBA champion was accused of exchanging hundreds of text messages with Erin Barry.
Parker reflected on his divorce a couple of years later, claiming it was a "difficult and painful experience." He blamed the spotlight for the end of their relationship, saying he couldn't control the exposure.
