The Houston Rockets are the top team in the Western Conference with a record of 22-4. They are currently on an 11-game win streak and are one of the best, if not the best team, in the NBA right now.
Daryl Morey has done a fine job this off-season of putting together this roster with the addition of some new pieces over the summer. The team has found a perfect balance between offense and defense and are starting to really find a rhythm.
With Chris Paul and James Harden adjusting perfectly to their new roles, can Harden and Paul take this team to the finish line?
Here are 5 reasons why the Houston Rockets might be the NBA champs this season :
#5 Roster
The Houston Rockets altered their roster to somehow make it deeper and even better compared to last season without losing much of their core and adding an All-Star point guard in the process.
Chris Paul and James Harden have proved in this active winning streak that they can co-exist together and can function at their optimum while getting a fair share of the ball in their hands.
Trevor Ariza is tried and tested in the Playoffs affecting the game on both ends of the floor. Ryan Anderson at the power forward position is a great streaky three-point shooter. Although he is a bit of a defensive liability, his ability to rebound the ball and shoot the ball makes it up for his flaws on the other end of the floor.
Clint Capela has solidified his place as the starting center for the Rockets and has only improved from their on out. He has taken his game to a whole new dimension on both ends of the floor this season and can be a real difference maker in the playoffs. Nene is the perfect backup center who provides valuable minutes of the bench.
Then you have the winner of the three-point contest last year in Eric Gordan, who is their spark off the bench and two great wing defenders in PJ Tucker and Luc Mbah A Moute, who have become an integral part of the rotation.
Although they have amongst the deepest rosters in the NBA, it will be interesting to see how D'Antoni uses that bench during playoff time as he is known for not going too deep into his bench come Playoff time.
