Aaron Gordon would compete in the Dunk Contest if invited back

What's the story?

According to The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears, Orlando Magic guard Aaron Gordon says that he'll compete in the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest if the league asks him.

In case you didn't know...

Aaron Gordon was the fourth pick overall in the 2014 NBA Draft out of Arizona. Ahead of him in the draft were Andrew Wiggins (#1 to Minnesota), Jabari Parker (#2 to Milwaukee), and Joel Embiid (#3 to Philadelphia).

The heart of the matter...

Gordon competed in the past two NBA Slam Dunk Contests, including a runner-up finish in 2016. He lost to Minnesota Timberwolves (now a member of the Chicago Bulls) guard Zach LaVine in the second tiebreaker round of the finals that year.

In the 2017 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, Gordon was one of four participants, but finish last in scoring. Glenn Robinson III of the Indiana Pacers won last year's contest.

What's next?

Gordon and the Magic are off to a good start at 8-6 and will look to keep it going on Wednesday night against the Portland Trailblazers (7-6)

I don't blame Gordon for wanting to get back into the contest after finishing last at the 2017 All-Star Game and coming so close in 2016 in what was one of the best dunk contests of recent memory. Hopefully the league gives him another shot this season.
