Andrew Wiggins' girlfriend Mychal Johnson dotes on Warriors star who is set to start season opener against Suns
Golden State forward Andrew Wiggins’ girlfriend, Mychal Johnson, was fully supportive of her man as the Warriors began their 2023–24 NBA campaign against the Phoenix Suns in a home game on Tuesday.
The one-time All-Star is coming off a tough season, wherein he missed half of the team’s assignments because of injury and for personal reasons.
In an Instagram story post, Johnson shared a photo of Andrew Wiggins making his way to the Warriors’ dugout with emojis of a smiling face with heart-eyes, which is deemed to symbolize love and affection.
Last season, the pair were spotlighted over cheating speculations pointing to Johnson, which some viewed as the reason why Wiggins was absent for nearly two months. She, however, vehemently denied it and the allegations were not proven to be true.
For his part, Andrew Wiggins chose to keep quiet on the cheating rumors and maintained that he had to spend time with his family as his father went through a “serious medical situation” as to the reason why he was away.
Overall, he finished their campaign last time around with averages of 17.1 points, five rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.2 steals while helping Golden State reach the Western Conference semifinals.
Andrew Wiggins wants to earn a spot in Team Canada for Paris Olympics
Apart from having a solid campaign for the Golden State Warriors, All-Star Andrew Wiggins is using the just-started 2023-24 NBA season as a jump-off point for a earning a spot in the Canadian men’s basketball team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Because of a rib injury he sustained in the playoffs last season, the 28-year-old Kansas product missed the 2023 FIBA World Cup with Team Canada.
The team, however, still earned a podium finish, winning bronze, and earned a berth in next year’s Olympics for being one of the two best teams from the Americas in the tournament, along with the United States of America, which it defeated in the bronze medal game.
In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda, Wiggins shared how it was tough to miss the FIBA World Cup and how he is looking forward to rejoining the team for the Olympics.
The former rookie of the year said:
“This year was tough because I ended the season with a broken rib. But the goal next year is to be with them in Paris. It was tough. But they did a great job there. They qualified, and that was something we hadn’t done in a long time. All of the guys competed hard, led by Shai [Gilgeous-Alexander], Dillon [Brooks] and RJ [Barrett]. It was great for those guys.”
He continued:
“Yeah, I would love to [play in the Olympics]. I think our chances are good. We have a great team.”
In his absence, Team Canada was led in the World Cup by fellow NBA stars like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City), RJ Barrett (New York), Dillon Brooks (Houston) and Kelly Olynyk (Utah).
