Anthony Davis' age: Is the LA Lakers power forward the best player at his position at his age?
Anthony Davis has played at an elite level this season. Through 17 games, the LA Lakers star is averaging 26.2 points, 12.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game while shooting 57.1% from the field.
Davis is currently leading the league in rebounding, fifth in blocks, 11th in scoring, 12th in steals, and 14th in field goal percentage. From an analytical standpoint, he is leading the league in defensive rating, third in player efficiency rating, third in win shares per 48 minutes, seventh in win shares, seventh in box plus/minus, and 16th in offensive rating.
There are only three other 29-year-old power forwards in the NBA, and none of the three are currently averaging more than 10.0 points per game. Davis, who has been among the best players in the league this season, is easily the best of the group.

While Anthony Davis may be the only dominant power forward that is 29 years old, there are three forwards currently averaging more points per game than the LA Lakers star.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the highest scoring forward, averaging 30.9 points per game. The Milkwaukee Bucks star is also averaging 11.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 53.4% from the field. Antetokoumpo is 27 years old and is set to turn 28 next week.
Jayson Tatum is right behind Giannis on the points per game leaderboard, averaging 30.8. Tatum has also added 7.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is shooting 48.1% from the field, 34.7% from 3-point range, and 87.0% from the free-throw line.
Kevin Durant follows Tatum on the points per game leaderboard, as the Brooklyn Nets star averages 30.0. Durant is also chipping in with 6.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game at the age of 34.
There are two forwards averaging at least 25.0 points per game, yet not scoring more than Davis. 26-year-old Jaylen Brown is averaging 26.1 points per game, while Davis' soon-to-be 38-year-old Lakers teammate, LeBron James, is averaging 25.4 points per game.
