NBA 2018-19: Are the Boston Celtics the most disappointing team this season?
Let’s take a moment to properly analyze this. The Boston Celtics, without Kyrie Irving & Gordon Hayward (who were the two biggest signings for the Celtics during the 2017 offseason) managed to reach the Eastern Conference Finals with their young talent rotation of Rozier, Brown, Tatum etc and go seven games against LeBron and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Playoffs.
Which to be honest, had everybody wondering what if Hayward & Irving were playing. As deserved, the Celtics got most of the 2018 off-season hype, with everyone saying that they were the favorites in the East. They even got recognition from the Warriors’ Klay Thompson who claimed they were the best team out East prior to the season starting!
However, the season then started. And the Celtics lead by Kyrie Irving and an exceptional coach in Brad Stevens have not yet found their groove let alone ‘lead the East’. Other teams such as the Rockets, Spurs & OKC all started off the this NBA season badly but have eventually picked up and are playing as expected.
The Celtics are now sitting in the 5th seed in the East, with the Sixers, Pacers, Bucks and Raptors all leading the way in the Conference. Which makes you wonder, whats causing the Celtics to not meet their expectations.
This comes down to two individuals. First, Kyrie Irving, as he has failed to be the leader that this Celtics team desperately needs. And second; Brad Stevens, who does not seem to know how to manage arguably the deepest and most talented roster in the NBA!
This is the 2nd year that this Celtics core has been together and if they have not figured it out by now, which clearly, they have not. Then, this would make them the most disappointing team this season.
