Atlanta Hawks head coach position: Top 3 potential candidates for job as Nate McMillan fired and Joe Prunty named interim coach

The Atlanta Hawks are in search of a new coach, as Nate McMillan was recently fired. In the meantime, Joe Prunty is currently the acting interim coach for the Hawks. Apparently, Prunty's coaching stint won't last for very long, as Atlanta is looking for potential candidates.

Prominent NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski recently reported that the Atlanta Hawks have set their sights on former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder. If the Hawks and Snyder can't agree terms, there are two other coaches the team is considering. One is the Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson and the other is Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Charles Lee.

Wojnarowski said:

"The Hawks are planning a wide-ranging search, but one candidate expected to be at the top of the list: Former Utah Jazz coach Quin Snyder. Others expected to be considered include Bucks assistant Charles Lee, Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson."

Top three potential coaches for Atlanta Hawks

Here are the three options:

#1 Quin Snyder

Quin Snyder has been around the league since 1992 when he was first an assistant coach for the LA Clippers.

Snyder then worked his way up till he became coach of the Utah Jazz in 2014. He served them for eight seasons before resigning last June. He has a coaching record of 372-264 in the NBA regular season.

Apparently, this isn't Snyder's first rodeo with the Atlanta Hawks. He was an assistant coach for the Hawks for one season before becoming the head coach in Salt Lake City. Given his history with the franchise, it's no surprise that Atlanta is eying him, especially now that he has a lot of head coaching experience.

#2 Charles Lee

Throughout the recent off-season, Charles Lee has been offered head coaching positions. The assistant has recently endured plenty of interviews, and more seem to be coming up, like the Atlanta Hawks, for instance.

Lee is most renowned for his work in player development. Players have always adored him for being a great coach. He might provide the Hawks with the voice they need to move past the difficult point in their season.

#3 Kenny Atkinson

Kenny Atkinson is another familiar face the Hawks are considering acquiring as their new coach. Atkinson used to be part of Atlanta's coaching staff in 2012.

In 2016, Kenny finally got his first coaching stint with the Brooklyn Nets. He coached them till 2020 before stepping down in March that year.
