Greece started the second quarter with a dominating 14-0 run, extending their lead to 15 points. Although Australia responded with four quick points, Greece surged back. They secured their largest lead of the game at 50-33 after a spectacular spin move in transition from Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The first half ended with Greece leading Australia 53-36. Giannis had 15 points, five rebounds, three assists one steal in the first half.
Greece's Nick Calathes opened the second half with a basket and then made a crucial defensive play by taking a charge on Josh Giddey. Despite Australia's continued offensive struggles, they managed to reduce the deficit to 12 points by the end of the third quarter.
The Boomers started the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run, but Giannis Antetokounmpo quickly responded with a three-pointer to push Greece's lead back to 10 points. Patty Mills then brought Australia back within striking distance by hitting a three-pointer and a mid-range jumper, reducing Greece's 17-point halftime lead to just two points at 71-69.
Vassilis Toliopoulos hit a clutch 3-pointer, extending Greece's lead to 74-69. Thomas Walkup later added a corner 3-pointer, securing a 77-71 victory for Greece.
Giannis ended the game with 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals.
