Bill Russell arrested at airport for carrying a gun
Basketball legend Bill Russell was arrested at the airport last week for carrying a gun.
The 79-year-old center and Hall of Fame inductee was arrested at the Seattle International airport when officials from the Transportation Security Administration found the gun in his luggage. To make matters worse, the gun was loaded.
He was arrested on the grounds of carrying a weapon in a prohibited area. The gun was a .38-caliber pistol which had six rounds of ammunition. The gun was confiscated and Russell was released.
However, Russell apologised for carrying the gun, “Before boarding my flight from Seattle to Boston, I had accidentally left a legal firearm in my bag, I apologize and truly regret the mistake.”
Russell was an 11-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics in the 1950s. He was also the coach of the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1970s.
