The Milwaukee Bucks wouldn’t have been the NBA champions in 2021 if Brook Lopez hadn’t played for them. Everyone in the organization including Lopez knows that. His postseason in 2021 was punctuated by some key plays including a crucial block on Kevin Durant in overtime of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. His defensive presence and shooting ability have proven invaluable to the Bucks over the years and that is among the main reasons why the Bucks have brought him back on a two-year deal. The 35-year-old is probably on his last legs in the NBA but let’s not forget, Lopez had an amazing career in college basketball as well, leading him to be a lottery pick in the NBA. Let’s dwell on Lopez’s college career a bit more.

Where did Brook Lopez go to college?

Brook Lopez went to Standford University. After finishing high school at San Joaquin High School in Southern California, Lopez opted to play for Standford University, a place not usually known for its sports prowess.

Brook Lopez played two seasons in Standford, alongside his twin brother Robin Lopez. The 2006-07 season was Lopez’s first year at Stanford and he made an immediate impact. Averaging 12.6 points, 6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks a game, Lopez had a stellar freshman season and was a member of the All-Pac10 freshman team and an honorable mention in the All-Pac10 team.

It was in his second season, however, that Lopez broke out. He had an amazing sophomore season on both ends of the court, averaging 19.3 points, 8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks a game. He also led Standford to the NCAA tournament, highlighted by his game-winning buzzer-beater he hit against Marquette in the second round. He was named to the All-Pac10 first team and the All-American third team for his exceptional sophomore season. On March 31, 2008, Brook Lopez declared for the NBA draft. He was picked in the 1st round as 10th overall pick by the New Jersey Nets (currently the Brooklyn Nets).
