Chicago is chosen for the site of the 2020 NBA All-Star Game
What's the story?
The NBA announced that Chicago will be the host of the 2020 NBA All-Star game. The weekend's festivities will be held at the United Center where the Chicago Bulls play.
In case you didn't know...
The first time that Chicago hosted the NBA All-Star Game was in 1973. Dave Cowens of the Boston Celtics was named the MVP of the game.
The heart of the matter...
This will be the first time Chicago has hosted the All-Star Game since 1988. In that game, Bulls legend Michael Jordan was named the game's MVP.
The NBA Commissioner Adam Silver would provide these comments about Chicago being chosen:
“Chicago is an iconic city with a storied basketball history. We are thrilled to bring the NBA All-Star Game back,” said Silver. “We thank Mayor Emanuel, Jerry and Michael Reinsdorf and the entire Bulls organization and look forward to an exciting week of activities celebrating the game of basketball.”
This season the All-Star Game will take place in Los Angeles followed by Charlotte in 2019. In 2020, it will mark the 18th consecutive year that TNT will broadcast the game for a total of 35 years of All-Star Game coverage for Turner Sports overall.
What's next?
The 2018 NBA All-Star Game takes place in Los Angeles at the Staples Center beginning with the Rising Stars Challenge on February 16th and ending with the game itself on February 18th.
Author's take...
Finally, there is some good news for the city of Chicago when it comes to the NBA as they have started off terribly in the 2017-18 season with a record of 2-8; which is among the worst records in the league.
I think there will be some special moments involving some of the Bulls legends such as Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen who lead the Bulls to six NBA Championship as this is the first All-Star Game in the city since those titles were won.
