Chris Paul named NBPA president
The National Basketball Players Association has named Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul as its new president.
The star was elected on Wednesday at the union’s summer meeting in Las Vegas. Paul, who previously was an NBPA vice president, replaces Derek Fisher.
Fisher’s tenure ended on a controversial note after the firing of union’s longtime executive director Billy Hunter which resulted in public squabbles and lawsuits in the superior court.
“I think I have a lot of experience, being around and knowing what’s going on. Moving forward is not about me or any one person. It’s about the players as a whole. It’s going to take a lot of work, but we have a great executive committee, a great group of guys who are ready to move forward,” said Paul on Wednesday.
Paul is a six time All-star who was also named first-team All-NBA in 2012-2013. Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Blake and Charlotte Bobcats forward Anthony Tolliver was also added to the executive committee on Wednesday.
